In 1935, City Lake Park debuted the largest pool east of the Mississippi River. Today’s renovation modernizes the facility, reactivating the building as a gathering space and re-envisioning the aquatic amenities. Understated façade materials allow original stone to stand out, becoming the backdrop for essential summer activities. The prominent façade is recessed on the second story, creating a porch overlooking the splash pad. The design repurposes the ground level to create family-friendly spaces. Horizontal armatures unify disparate volumes and provide elevated comfort. The result is a vibrant amenity that engages the human senses and refreshes the park for future generations.
