The Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center brings five regulatory and diagnostic laboratories with diverse needs into one complex with a mission to protect consumers.
The parti separates laboratory and office functions that concentrate activity towards the heart of the building; weaving equitable common spaces, interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities, and connections to the exterior throughout the building’s circulation. Building materials were selected to evoke the surrounding environment.
The design elevates lab practices and the mission of the NC Department of Agriculture – embedding the modern lab building into the agrarian landscape; juxtaposing the agricultural products studied and tested with scientific-responsibility and purpose.
