Architect: Jenkins Peer Architects
Location: Charlotte, NC
Work involved the modernization of the 1915-1932 neo-classical Jonas Courthouse, and the addition of a new nine-story Annex. Both phases of the project honor the historical significance of the existing building and site while providing a new and modernized facility for the future. The project included extensive renovation, historic preservation, and code upgrades while providing nine new courtrooms, chambers, and improved secure public circulation meeting current federal guidelines for the GSA, U.S. Courts and USMS. The Architect was able to execute a seamless integration of old and new while maintaining the historic integrity and vision of the local judiciary.
