Shiki Sushi engaged the architect to design a new 10,000 sf restaurant in a former drug store space next to their existing location in Durham, NC. The design organizes seating into different spatial experiences: Social, Open and Intimate. The lighting, furnishings, ceilings, and archtiectural features vary based on the desired scale, mood, and privacy for each experience. Folding wall and ceiling planes define the space in contrast to the existing structure. Dramatic custom lighting and a limited palette of colors give the space a vibrant consistency with an extremely efficient layout - all achieved on a modest budget.
