This new Fine Arts Center features a dramatic transparent entry volume which engages with the streetscape, interlocked with visually complex volumes with varying textures and degrees of solidity. The materials palette is drawn from local vernacular architecture as well as the surrounding campus context, and the expansive lobby provides a welcoming gathering space in which patrons can “see and be seen.” The auditorium itself is the largest in the southeastern part of North Carolina, and offers greatly expanded educational and economic opportunities for both the community and the campus.
