Smith Phayer Hospice House is a hospice inpatient unit. The plan is organized in a north/south and east/west axis around a circular lobby - a tall space with clerestory windows serving as an organizing element for circulation as well as an exterior entrance element. Sited to provide existing forest views from each patient room, large windows provide a cheerful yet peaceful environment. Simple building forms are employed to reduce the mass of the building and invoke a residential character. The facility includes twelve patient rooms (planned for 12 future beds), offices, chapel, kitchen and dining facilities, and family areas.
