Liquor stores are not known for sex appeal. The Asheville Board of Alcoholic Beverage Control sought to remedy this with a new prototypical store retailing spirituous liquor. Designers were challenged to invite customers in to a contemporary, fashionable, comfortable shopping experience, especially women ages 30-50. Transparency and flexibility are design priorities. The design had to accommodate numerous sites throughout Asheville and remain recognizable. Thus, architects rebranded the ABC Board, leveraging a new logo to improve ABC identity and punctuate building elevations. This project is the fourth prototype constructed. Sales are up.
