After 34 years of use, Brassfield Road Elementary School was selected as a prototype renovation project for the Wake County public schools. Instead of tearing down the building and constructing a new school to serve 600 students, this sustainable approach uses the same tax-payer funds to renovate and upgrade four schools that impact 2400 students. The construction time-frame was limited to 6 months and the code path limited to Alteration level one, no new walls or openings. This restriction focused our team to design the reflected ceiling plane using standard construction materials and paint, but created a new school environment.
