EPIC is a three-story 200,000 square foot research facility that combines the engineering departments of Civil and Environmental with Electrical and Computing. The primary driver was to create a building that becomes an extension of the curriculum through strategies focused on light and water that reduce resource consumption. The building is organized around nodes of collaboration intended to bring together students, professors, and industry partners to create a synergistic environment for the improvement of energy supply and delivery. The transitional architectural style allows the building to respond to its classical context while expressing through fenestration the current technologies employed internally.
