Lyons Farm Elementary School was designed as a unique, efficient design that embodied the future of education in a healthy learning environment. Drawing inspiration from the brick detailing and proportions of Durham’s railroad and warehouse buildings, the design team envisioned a school building that echoed the character of Durham. The school was also designed to meet requirements for LEED for Schools v2009. The design team designed long-lasting high-performance building features, including drought-tolerant landscaping, reflective roofing, energy recovery units, regional materials, and low-VOC interior finishes. The interior finishes use earthy colors and fun patterns to provide an enticing learning experience.
