The reimagined 9,500-seat American Legion Memorial Stadium strengthens community connection and enhances the fan experience, while honoring the stadium’s storied past. Originally constructed in 1936 with funding from President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration, the stadium was Charlotte’s first public venue capable of hosting more than 1,000 visitors. Based on its distinctive architectural elements and contribution to Charlotte’s history, the stadium was designated an Historic Landmark in 2004. The design team work diligently to protect this distinction by recreating the Art Deco design of ticket booths and concourse walls and completely recycling the original stone field wall, replicating embedded stone lettering.
