According to the American College Health Association, 30% of college students report feeling so down at some point during the academic year that they found it difficult to function. At William & Mary student anxiety was an increasing concern. The administration committed $14 million dollars to provide an integrative wellness center that would go beyond traditional medical service to provide a convenient, welcoming, and holistic campus resource. The design approach focused on how the built environment could engage students and help them be successful and happy in their collegiate endeavors, with a focus on mindfulness and natural prevention.
