O'Brien Atkins Associates PA
Location: Durham, NC
Durham County Administration II repurposed a vacant Judicial Building originally constructed in 1978 into a modern office building and community hub, consolidating important County services into a central location. This major renovation sought to make pedestrian and urban scale improvements, activate the existing plaza, engage Main Street, create a sustainable building envelope, and extend the life of the building. Public amenities on the First Floor include two restaurant spaces and community meeting rooms, bringing life to this area of Downtown. Large architectural expressions give the building a civic stature, proportional with the 1919 Historic Courthouse on axis across Main Street.
