VINES architecture
Location: Durham
The transformation of the new main library includes 65,000 SF of complete renovation and a significant addition of approximately 19,800 SF. The original structure was very inwardly focused with limited natural light and connection to the community. The initial design objectives for the project are to foster greater connectivity within the building and to the city and community beyond. The site is located at the edge of downtown Durham at a unique ‘seam’ between downtown businesses, a redeveloping historic neighborhood and several existing city/county social services.
