From the beginning, the University of North Carolina set an ambitious goal - to reuse and completely transform Rhoades Hall, enhance the lives of the occupants and those around it, and meet the University’s aggressive commitment to sustainability. The architectural solution activates both the building itself and the main pedestrian path, connecting the academic and social sections of campus with a new, light-filled addition. The new systems solutions in this completely renovated building use 47% less energy than before the renovation, allowing the University to power another entire building with the difference.
