Separated by the Trent River, Jones County Public Schools had three aging schools, two of which flooded in Hurricane Florence, a weak tax base and no way to replace or repair their schools. With a vision towards survival, the new Jones PK-12 School was born from a public-private-partnership combining all three schools into one, serving children from Pre-K to twelfth grade under one roof. The building generates 175% of the electricity used and has day-lit collaboration areas providing a flexible learning environment that fosters each student’s educational awareness and ownership while engaging students to become great stewards of the environment.
