Location: Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina

A house on the water shouldn’t be like any other house- just as a seabird isn’t suited for the mountains.  The rugged environment of the North Carolina coast- the wind, sand, and sea- can be destructive and unforgiving.  Yet these forces also conspire to create- forming the land and culture of the communities that reside there.  With this scenic landscape comes unique challenges, sometimes superimposed upon the inherent trials of urban density.  From the outset of this project it was hoped that the forces of nature and humanity, when allowed, may shape a thing of rare beauty- a Black Pearl.
