To address the current and future pressures of climate change in hurricane-prone coastal areas we had to deconstruct the typical ideas of program arrangement, façade performance and construction efficiency. The architecture was driven by the need to creatively interlace performance and beauty in order to accomplish a higher quality of patient services during disaster events. Documented research from this project is designed to inform all future buildings on this campus, future expansions and for hospitals located in all coastal towns from Wilmington to Florida.
