The basic form of the Piedmont Prairie Classroom began as a simple pole barn which we pushed and pulled in every direction until we had a design that was responsive to the land, reflective of the purpose of the structure and would engage with garden visitors. Upon first glance it appears simple and unassuming and as one approaches the structure it is clear that the splay of the columns, the rise of the ridge and the descending eave all add a delightful complexity to the project.
