Location: Cherokee, NC
This new 150,000 s.f. hospital facility is nested in the mountainous terrain which is home to the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. It is organized around a linear two story curved concourse, oriented towards views of the mountains. Functional components are organized to into maximize perimeter wall to provide internal spaces with natural light. The curved concourse contains circulation elements, waiting, and reception areas. The tree-formed structural elements in the concourse are one of several references to traditional Cherokee culture. Traditional Cherokee symbology include the stylized basket rotunda and ancient patterns on the exterior skin.
