New roots are laid where old roots lie. Twin oak trees stand guard on the southern edge of this Asheville property, bounding an established linear lawn that crowns across a north-south ridge – Who are we to disrupt? Best keep it intact for kids at play or dogs fetching, same as its always been.

The Twin Oaks house organizes deferentially to this old growth landscape in Asheville’s Lakeshore Heights neighborhood, an historic ‘hood adjacent to John Nolan’s Lakeview Park. The home’s living and eating spaces extrude from the lawn’s north end.  The oaks are ever-present.
