Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Over time, Bookmarks, a nonprofit books festival, became increasingly involved in year-round programming and partnerships with schools and other organizations. To continue their outreach, they needed to establish a physical presence. They chose to renovate a former 1920s garage on an alley accessible from one of the main drags downtown via a breezeway. From the outset, Bookmarks' space needed to be more than a bookstore, but a gathering space for the literary arts as well to support the mission of their nonprofit. Aided by the architect's rendering, they raised the needed funds and, together, we realized their dream.
