Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce Architects, PA
Location: Meadows, North Carolina
The Stokes County Campus building marks an important educational addition to the rural area, and pays homage to the views of the surrounding fields and the Sauratown mountain range. Influenced by the agricultural heritage of the area, its form blends traditional elements with modern responses to natural forces. A large white oak sun screen shades a distinctive vertical entry. Water free falls from folds in the roof line, recalling the numerous waterfalls found in the region. At each level, the classrooms are organized along a central corridor creating an efficient layout which allows natural daylight in every room.
