Architect: KSQ/Peterson
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Description:
The residence halls UNC Charlotte students refer to as the “Tree Houses” (Maple, Oak, Pine, Elm) will be transformed through renovations and small additions, modernizing the facilities and effectively creating new interior and exterior community spaces. Previously sloping courtyard spaces subject to frequent erosion have been redesigned and regraded to accommodate accessibility requirements while simultaneously creating level spaces for a wide range of outdoor activities. Functioning as the “heart” of the residential neighborhood is a glassy addition at the west end of Maple Hall containing multiple levels of student activity space and a porch, a traditional mainstay of southern culture.
