Architect: Perkins+Will
Location: Durham, NC
Description:
The Durham County Human Services Complex (DCHSC) houses the consolidation of the county’s Social Services, Public Health and Mental Health departments, plus a new county-wide meeting space. The project, located on the 400 block of the East Main Street corridor of downtown Durham, totals 275,000 SF and represents an important first step and catalyst towards the revitalization of this underdeveloped part of downtown.
The complex brings all of the County’s human service agency employees together, facilitating cross-agency consultation. The improved quality of the visitor experience has elevated the level of respect, convenience and comfort extended to the thousands of clients passing through the front doors each year. The theme of caring and respect is prominently displayed in the quote featured on the iconic glass wall at the building entrance.
