Description:
The Garden Pavilion represents the intersection of arriving and staying. It balances the openness of nature with the enclosure of architecture. Curved limestone walls ground the pavilion in river rock trenches and flare out, framing views of the lawn and existing trees. A curved, louvered plane floats overhead, filtering and mediating sunlight. Its patterned wood ceiling warms the interior, while metal louvers extend out to screen a generous patio. The roof appears to float in the air above thanks to a continuous, encircling clerestory. Ultra transparent glazing blurs the distinction between interior and exterior, further connecting and unifying the two.
