Architect: Clearscapes
Location: Clayton, NC
Description:
Doubling its population in 10 years, the Town of Clayton committed to expanding the existing police headquarters in its Historic Downtown location. Unlike a typical, bunker-like law enforcement facility, the Town desired open, civic-like spaces emphasizing cooperation and collaboration. Inspired by the ubiquitous police lantern always lit at the entry to a station, the major gathering spaces are celebrated as large, transparent “Beacons” visually opening the building to the community. An entry court is echoed internally with a two-story circulation spine, lit by a clerestory to connect these common spaces. A Fallen Officer’s Memorial was also integrated into the building.
