Architect: Hobgood Architects
Location: Kuwait City, Kuwait
Description:
The project is a villa of 1,600 square meters on four levels for a family of 7. The complexity of the program is a result of the strict separation of public formal spaces, private family spaces and servant spaces. The seperation of these living types results in a variable system of circulation. All parking and mechanical spaces are located in a underground garage. The site is relatively flat and is in a neighborhood of gridded walled lots of 1,000 square meters. The prevelant type is a villa as a large central block with space around the house for landscape.
Spaces are very specific to their required functions. The basement level kitchen is the primary food preparation area. A second kitchen on the ground level is for serving the formal dining space and the family kitchen on the second level is for family dinners and functions.
Finally the house is a reversal of many of the current building methods in the area. Solid-Void, Open-Closed, Figure Ground Reversal, Heavy-Light. The attempt is to use new technologies and accomplish this with a deep respect for the climate, place, history and habits of this family.
