Architect: Clark Nexsen
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Description:
Nestled in a thriving historic neighborhood, Halifax Community Center is a catalyst of fellowship, culture, recreation, and education. Transparency to active spaces and a welcoming entry engage the community and offer a dynamic anchor, while scale and material respond to context. A seventeen foot high, thirty inch wide masonry wall bisects the building along the circulation path and ultimately engages the public street through the playground. This organizational datum separates community program areas from the primary athletic volume and private spaces, which are defined by the change in volume and roofline. The center is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification through USGBC.
