Architect: Clark Nexsen
Location: Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina
Description:
Terminal One at RDU was originally designed as a maintenance hangar facility. It was subsequently converted to use as a passenger terminal and has been used as such for over 30 years. Small upgrades had occurred but none to address the comprehensive range of current demands. To do so, the building was taken back to its structure and completely re-imaged. This major transformation focused on enhancing the passenger experience by integration of TSA security, improved baggage handling, simplified way finding, incorporation of passenger amenities and retail options and providing a contemporary, architectural space commensurate with the expectations of current day air travelers.
