Architect: The Raleigh Architecture Co.
Location: Raleigh, NC
Description:
The Dasgupta-Saucier Residence is located on a thoroughfare in the reenergized but historic residential community of Hungry Neck, Raleigh. Previously vacant, the narrow downtown infill lot is half of a variance-required subdivision. The house uses natural topography and carefully placed openings to alleviate sound and establish privacy. Recessed front and rear porches created by cantilevering the upper story acknowledge contextual patterns. A central volume provides natural daylight while a custom steel staircase twists upwards, visually and physically connecting each level. Warm cypress siding roots the residence into the landscape and weathered steel panels protect the private upper story.
**can be awarded as one with Coyle-Johnston Residence if the jury sees fit.
