Architect: Cline Design Associates
Location: Raleigh, NC
Description:
Replacing The Salvation Army’s inadequate facility in downtown Raleigh, the Judy D. Zelnak Center of Hope is a LEED-certified, adaptive reuse of the Edwards & Broughton Printing Company building, originally constructed in 1956. Benefitting the community by providing hope and refuge to local populations in need, the project also revitalizes a vacant, deteriorating building within an industrial context at the northern gateway to the City of Raleigh. The architectural transformation reflects The Salvation Army’s mission of “doing the most good,” and serves as a metaphor by welcoming people with the shelter, services and support needed to transform their lives.
