Ponce City Market
Atlanta, Georgia
Surber Barber Choate + Hertlein Architects
Ponce City Market is the transformation of Georgia’s largest historic building into a vibrant 1.8 million square foot mixed-use activity hub. The once derelict Sears Roebuck & Company distribution center and its surrounding 15.9-acre site now offer a dynamic mix of retail, restaurants, offices, apartments, event spaces, and parking. Almost 90% of the original structure was used with removals of inappropriate additions. The original masonry shell was restored and over 50,000 glass panes were replaced in the historic steel windows. The final layout reused 12 of 13 original stairs and 10 of 14 original elevators.
